Maiharaji Altine, Gusau
There was pandemonium in Kwanar Mayanci, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, on Wednesday as gunmen on motorbikes hit the town in large numbers.
On sighting the men said to be repentant Fulani bandits, everyone took to their heels, fearing Boko Haram fighters were about to strike.
A resident of the area, Ibrahim Sani, told our correspondent that the men took away food items as well as some jerry cans containing petrol when they arrived in the town.
Ibrahim said the heavily armed men told residents not to panic as they were not there to kill anybody.
According to him, the leader of the group brought out N20,000 and asked those whose valuables were stolen by his boys to share it.
Ibrahim claimed the gangsters occupied the Gusau-Sokoto road for nearly an hour and later rode their motorcycles towards the forest.
Confirming the incident, the Special Adviser to Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Dauran, said the gunmen were repentant bandits moving out of the state.
He said, “They are moving out of the state as we have no problem with them.”
Spokesman for the police in the state, Muhammad Shehu, said the gunmen were moving to Birnin Gwari in Kaduna State. (Punch).
