The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, has promised not to spend state resources to finance the burial of his father, the late Elder Gabriel Nkanang.
Nkanang, who passed on last year, will be laid to rest on February, 15, 2020, at his family house in the Onna Local Government Area of the state.
The dovernor gave the assurance when a delegation of Eket Senatorial District leaders, led by Nduese Essien, paid him a condolence visit on Saturday.
Emmanuel said his family was privately funding the programme.
He said, “The Accountant General of the state is there, ask him, I have not requested a penny from the state for this event and I have vowed not to do so.
“My father was a teacher and salaries of teachers were quite small as at then, but he worked hard to ensure that all his children had the best foundation in life and attained the highest level in education.”
He said the only way the family members would pay him for bringing them up educationally was to sacrifice themselves and rely on support from friends to give him a befitting burial.
