Three years before the next presidential election takes place, long time political buddies have met to kick start what would be an intriguing race in 2023.
Tambuwal and Wike were joined by few other Peoples Democratic Party, PDP on Monday in what a source close to one of the governors said was to “disguise the whole thing” if only Tambuwal and Wike had met.
Others who were at the meeting were Senator Bala Mohammed, the Governor of Bauchi State, Umaru Fintiri the Governor of Adamawa state and Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
They all met in Government House Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where is the Governor.
Senator Anyanwu a source said would be carrying out consultation for the duo in the south east and would emerge the coordinator of the Tambuwal/Wike Campaign Organization,  to be known as TAWICO.
The source to one of the senators told Daily Mail on phone that, “consultation has started. Both don’t want to allow infiltration of the party by people who don’t mean well or won’t deliver.
“These two people have what it takes to win back the presidency for the PDP and deliver Nigeria from its current malaise.”
What the development, schemes to put back Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi as the candidate nd running ate is being check mated.
Asked if that would not sow schism in the party as it is early days yet, a source to one of the governors said, “Real politicians don’t wait till the eve of an election to consult and get themselves prepared. Those who must lead Nigeria in 2023 must begin to work and identify what’s wrong with the country now. It is not early at all, Nigeria needs rescue.”
Daily Mail had reported that former presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar is still poised to be the party’s candidate alongside Mr Obi, his running mate in 2019.
 The former vice president’s renewed ambition has caused ripples in the party such that the Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Alhaji Walid Jibrin, alleged threat to his life few weeks ago.
Jubrin is against the return of Alhaji Abubakar as the candidate and the former VP’s associates and supporters in the party are not taking it lightly.
Alhaji Jubrin had, in Kaduna said, “They told me that I am a traitor and that I should have said only Atiku would get the ticket because I said the Supreme Court had already overthrown him (Atiku).

“They said I should say Atiku is the man that I want because I am a leader. I have to make consultations with the National Working Committee (NWC), our governors and the National Executive Council (NEC) had to decide.

“They should not also forget that the party has a constitution and guidelines which say there must be primary for whoever wants to contest.”

The Alhaji Abubakar’s camp had accused Tambuwal and Wike of not committing themselves to the cause of the party’s presidential race in 2019, owing to their interest.

But r He source said, “Wike spent what was necessary for the party. He has been the soul financier of the party for five years running and should be accorded some respects.”

The two have been close friends and political buddies who have been nurturing a joint ambition since 2015 but they were in their first terms.

The duo almost jumped into the fray in 2019 but were advised to shelve it to enable them see what would happen at the election.

The permutation was that had Atiku/Obi emerged as President and Vice president, things would have changed. Their failure another source said was a “blessing in disguise because Mr Obi would have been thrown into the fray in 2023 since Mr Atiku had promised a one term.”

According to the source, “There is no group in the party or outside the party to stand up against the duo. They are the team to beat.”

Asked if Alhaji Jubrin was speaking for both Tambuwal and Wike, he said, “Jubrin said what he felt was good for the party. He didn’t mention any of the two except those the matter concerned.”

It was not clear why Fintiri, a political godson of Atiku attended the meeting and the two sources who confided in Daily Mail denied knowing his role at the  meeting.

The meeting between Tambuwal and Wike held separately before the joint meeting, Daily Mail can report.

No press statement was issued concerning any of the meetings as at the time of filing this report.
